AKC CHAMPION NAMIKA’S STONE COLD INDEPENDENCE

Every litter born on our farm is special to us.  We put a lot of time, $ and work into raising them.  This litter though!!!!  It’s special for an entirely different reason.  If you read our bio, you know that Bob has raised, shown and bred akitas since he was a junior in High School.  I won’t share his age publicly, but that has been a long long time ago, LOL!!!!  Back in 2007, Bob brought a 8 week old puppy home, and named him Stone.  Stone exceeded all his expectations.  He had bone, structure, movement, a bear-like head and perfect genetic health tests!!!!  Stone finished his AKC CH easily winning all 5 point majors.  The highest points available as a show dog.  He produced countless Champions, Grand Champions and titled dogs.  Stone completed all his health testing with the best results the Orthopedic Foundations for Animals (OFA) offers.  Including “EXCELLENT” hips, normal elbows, patellas, thyroid, and eye tests.   Stone paved a way for Royal Kennels and we are so thankful to have known him.  He passed away in 2019.

Fast forward to 2014.  Bob knew that he wanted to preserve Stone’s legacy by collecting him, freezing the semen, and storing it with a reproductive facility for canines.

Fast forward again to early fall 2024.  Bob and I knew that we wanted a litter of Stone babies.  We thought long and hard about potential matches for him.  We decided our girl, Groovy, was the perfect candidate.  She brings height to the pairing.  Groovy is by far our tallest female.  While she is still within the breed standard, she is at the top end for height.  Groovy also has a personality comparable to a golden retriever.  She has never met a stranger.  She loves everyone who will scratch behind her ears and talk sweetly to her.  So we made the trek to Abilene, KS to do a surgical pregnancy.  I won’t bore you with the details, but this requires a lot of work and dollars!  There are progesterone tests, boarding, travel and of course, the actual surgery.  I’m happy to announce that it was successful!  7 babies were born (no losses).  This is Groovy’s maiden whelp and she acts like she’s a pro.  These cubs are never lacking for attention from their mother.  It’s been such a joy to witness

For these reasons, I will always treasure these babies.  I feel like I’m looking into the eyes of Stone every time I hold these pups.
